I am an Accounting and Chinese student at UNLV. I am happy to be the Literacy and Service Director for our Golden Key Chapter! Service has always been important to me ever since I started volunteering at my brother's Special Olympics- I was hooked! I felt that each time I helped at an event, I got more out of it than the people I was supposed to be helping. I never left without a huge smile on my face.
When I studied abroad in China I continued to serve. I started to coordinate with the nonprofits in the city of Chengdu and also with the international students that were in my dorm. Before I knew it we were doing weekly service projects with disabled kids, biweekly English corners, and monthly food drop-offs at a nursing home. My final project was a huge entertainment night at the nursing home that peaked the interest of the local news and before I knew it, it was being streamed out to over 14 million people!
I hope my experience in service and working with kids will be an aid to our chapter and help it to shine bright. I am honored to be a part of the UNLV Golden Key chapter and excited to see what the year will bring.
