I used to volunteer in high school when I got the chance but since coming to college, my schedule has been so hectic that I don’t have as much time as I would like in order to give back to my community. Golden Key has provided me with an opportunity in community service that I greatly appreciate and hold dear.
Over the summer I was able to participate in a book bash at Jefferson Elementary. I was nervous about being around a lot of children but having my fellow Golden Key members made me feel really comfortable. I wasn’t sure what to expect but I was delighted to see the smiles and joy getting a new book brought to the faces of the kids. I had no idea they would be so excited to look through the books and choose the best one. It felt wonderful to be a part of that experience and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
Golden Key has not only given me the ability to give back to the people around me, but the courage to step up and become president of the organization. I never thought I had the confidence nor the ability to do something so wonderful, but I am proud to be a part of such an incredible team. Having the confidence to take the lead is something I’ve always strived for, and being a part of Golden Key was my way of accomplishing that goal.
