Having a child can do wonders for your drive and motivation. I have never been one to settle for just getting by, but reaching for the stars really becomes a goal, when you have someone looking up to you. I have been going to college off and on for the past seven years. It wasn't until recently, after receiving my CCAF(Community College of the Air Force) Degree, that I thought I could actually make something of myself. I started to notice that school seemed like more of a priority and less of an inconvenience when I would turn on the news every morning and hear about DOD cutbacks and draw down of the troops. The common belief was that if you had a Government job, you had job security. The fact of the matter is, no-one is safe with our not-so-stable economy in its crippled state. I have a beautiful family that I could not let down, no matter what excuses might be available for me. Therefore, I have to have a solid fall back plan, as well as a set-in-stone future for my wife and I, as well as my children. With the current benefits that the military provides, I intend to complete my Bachelor's Degree while serving Active Duty, and give my GI Bill benefits to my daughter so that she can attend college for free. My wife is also active duty and has plans to do the same and give her benefits to our son. I had all intentions of paying off previous school loans with a CLRP(College Loan Re-Payment Program) when I joined the military, but my paperwork was not right and I waived my right to do so. Now, with the Education Scholarship that Golden Key provides, I intend to apply and hopefully reduce that debt to further help with financial costs of college. I am proud to be a part of this organization and look foreword to networking and fulfilling leadership positions that are available for me and contribute to many volunteer opportunities as well. I hope to make a memorable impact on this organization and serve our country and school with pride. Again, thank you for this opportunity to become a part of something so great!
