Dying to Belong: Public Health, Health Disparities, and the Law Go to Chapter
Belonging is fundamental to unleashing human potential. Belonging is a basic human need. It is a sense of psychological safety and security. We all – no matter our background, ethnicity, age, gender, gender identity, race – have a need to feel a sense of belonging. Belonging is tied to dignity, and the ability to live without shame. This is particularly critical when it comes to reducing health disparities and reaching our nation’s health equity goals. In this talk, Montrece McNeill Ransom, JD, MPH, Contribution Faculty with Walden’s School of Health Sciences and Director of the National Coordinating Center for Public Health Training at the National Network of Public Health Institutes, will explore the phenomenon of belonging through the lens of health equity and the law. She will define and characterize belonging, highlighting its impact on health disparities, human potential, and the public health workforce.
