Pen, Paper, Purpose: Poetry Open Mic

 On Sunday, March 13th, 2022, taking place via Zoom from 7:00PM(EST)-8:45PM(EST), Golden Key International Honor Society will be presenting for the first time ‘Pen, Paper, Purpose: Poetry Open Mic’! Featuring special guest and performer LeJuane “El’Ja” Bowen who is the Director of ‘Southeastern Regional NC Poetry Festival’ (SERNC), as well as an award-winning spoken word poet and author! He is also the first poet to have his work in the Obama Art Museum located in Raleigh, NC, and was recognized as the first-ever NC Poet to compete in three major Grand Slam Finals in North Carolina! Whether you want to listen or perform everyone is welcome to this open mic poetry event! The purpose of this is to bring awareness to poetry and to promote the feeling of collaboration, expression, and diversity.

During this online event, those who have registered and have been approved will be able to perform! Those that are interested in watching need to email the contact person above in order to attend!

How to Register: REGISTER TODAY!!**Only 10 performers will be able to read their poems at this event.** Registration starts from February 1st to February 19th. In order to register, email the contact person above with your Name & Performer Name (if having one). Also enter your years of being a Golden Key member, and the degree that you are pursuing at Phoenix. Please also submit an audio or video of you presenting your 1 poem that is 3 minutes or less. We will consider poems that encourage, enlighten, stimulate positivity, and make you want to SNAPBACK!    

When Approved: Once we are notified of your interest in performing we will contact your email to let you know that you are chosen to read your poem! Additional steps will be provided when contacted via email.

What is the Purpose of the ‘Southeastern Regional NC Poetry Festival’? This nonprofit organization is an annual festival that lasts for 4 days in Fayetteville, North Carolina. During this annual Festival residents of North Carolina and beyond can submerge themselves into the atmosphere of spoken word poetry, and other literary arts there in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

What will your charitable donation do? With your generous donation, this Festival will use your contributions to help aspiring poets. As a result, these aspiring poets can overcome their fears such as writer 's block and speak in public. They can also adapt to new comfort levels when attending, performing, and networking while participating in open mic’s. Career-wise, Golden Key members will benefit from these great experiences!
