Reconciling with Indigenous Communities Go to Chapter
To this day, Indigenous communities still struggle to receive the recognition and acknowledgement that they deserve. As responsible members of society, we ought to learn about how to better support marginalized groups, especially groups whom have been silenced time and time again.
We have thus invited Chief Dr. Robert Joseph to speak on how we can reconcile with Indigenous communities!
As indicated in our Land Acknowledgement, Golden Key at York University recognizes that York University sits on the traditional territory of many Indigenous Nations. The area known as Tkaronto has been cared for by the Anishinabek Nation, the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, the Huron-Wendat, and the Métis, and is currently home to many Indigenous Peoples. We acknowledge both this history and the current treaty holders, the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. This territory is subject to the Dish With One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant, an agreement to peaceably share and care for the Great Lakes region.
