Officer Transition Go to Chapter

We could not have our traditional Transition Picnic because of the Covid-19 orders so we met via Teams and also encouraged outgoing officers to email their incoming students with some ideas of what went well, what were challenges, something they wish they had known, and advice or ideas for next year.

Here is Ashley 's advise to Bel, the incoming treasurer:

1. One or two things that worked well for you
   1. The main thing that worked really well for me both years was writing down important dates from the welcome meeting (This will be at the end of August/September) and weekly officer meetings into my planner. The main two duties you will have as treasurer is the UWL student orgs grant and the annual budget form (usually due towards the end of October). It might not seem like you have many individual duties, but they sneak up on you quick once your semester starts to get busy.
   2. My next thing that worked well was keeping in contact with Carla. She is your best resource for knowing dates, and what information needs to go onto the budget form!
2. One or two things that were challenges
   1. The one thing that was challenging for me was student turnout at meetings so I would try to get the word out to your friends and fellow classmates to attend meetings!
   2. Also, try to make it to the weekly officer meetings because they are very informative and it’s important to have a voice in what the UWL chapter partakes in.
3. Something you wish you would have known
   1. I wish I would’ve known about all of the scholarships Golden Key gives out each year. They have scholarships throughout the whole year so keep an eye out for those.
4. Advice or ideas for next year
   1. My biggest piece of advice is try to participate in as many volunteer and Golden Key events that you can! In the moment it may seem time consuming but they will help you immensely in your networking, leadership, and team building skills.
