Nozipho Hokonya is President of the NMMU Chapter in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, where she has led the chapter in various activities throughout the course of the year, with Community Service, Literacy, and Member and Alumni engagement being the main focus. Under Nozipho’s leadership this year, the chapter has recorded record-breaking growth by doubling their annual membership. This March she launched ”Academics Anonymous” (AA), which is a free tutoring service that targets first year students living in the residences. Nozipho believes that this initiative will assist the University to realize their vision of making the residences, areas of optimum living and learning.
She was recently awarded the Mandela Rhodes Scholarship, which is a Scholarship aimed at developing and enhancing leadership capacity in Africa. She recently had the great honour of meeting Former South African President, Mr. Nelson Mandela, who congratulated her and other scholarship recipients on their achievements. Nozipho is passionate about the empowerment of vulnerable groups; in particular women and children, and she hopes to one day establish a centre for children in disadvantaged communities that will focus on educational and life skills development.

The University of Hawai’i at Manoa Golden Key chapter was featured in the university’s official student newspaper, the Ka Leo (The Voice), on Wednesday, 10 March. The chapter was highlighted for its ongoing support of the Blood Bank of Hawai’i. For close to a decade the chapter has participated in numerous on-campus blood drives and has encouraged members to donate blood by providing willing students with active membership points in exchange for their gift of life. This year, the chapter is collaborating with the Department of Public Health on campus to sponsor a blood drive on 16 April. Golden Key members will be helping with this drive by recruiting blood donors, donating refreshments, staffing the post-donation/canteen area and donating blood themselves.
