This week marks National Volunteer Week in the United States.  Golden Key will be featuring some of its volunteers every day this week.

Dr. Gail Cole-Avent – University of Miami
Nominated by: Katie Pfister, Ronald Porcelli, Giovanna Ibias and the rest of the GK Executive Board 

“Dr. Gail Cole-Avent has got to be one of the most passionate and inspirational advisors to ever work in Golden Key. Despite the copious amounts of work she deals with as the Assistant to the Vice President for Student Affairs and University Ombudsperson at the University of Miami, Gail always finds time to help our Golden Key Chapter excel in every way. Our University of Miami chapter has risen to the Gold Standard level in recent years, and Gail has been a huge part of that success. She has earned the loyalty and admiration of the entire E-board with her laid-back style, bubbly personality and good humor. Gail is so much more than just an excellent advisor – she’s a wonderful friend to us all, and we are lucky to have her in our lives.”

Trevor Hicks-Collins, President of the 2011-2012 Weber State University chapter of Golden Key International Honour Society, will be the Commencement Speaker for Spring 2012 Graduation at Weber State University. Trevor will focus on Academics, Leadership and Service in his speech, and how he was able to exemplify success in these areas. He has served as an influential leader for Golden Key on campus and throughout the Northwest in achieving goals set for himself and enabling others to unlock their own potential. Special thanks and congratulations to Trevor Hicks-Collins and Weber State University for furthering the mission of Golden Key International Honour Society.

All Golden Key Regional Advisor Award winners are nominated for the International Advisor of the Year Award, but only one outstanding chapter advisor is selected to receive this honor for the academic year.  Bulter, a professor at The University of Florida, was selected from an outstanding pool of eligible advisors and received a $2,000 USD award.
Butler states, “All of the GK advisors, many of whom I have worked with many years, all deserve recognition because of their endless hours of volunteer work for Golden Key.  The Golden Key Chapters just keep getting better and better every year and I want to congratulate all of the advisors and members for their excellent work and the many hundreds of hours of community service.  Golden Key has been an enjoyable and rewarding part of my life for several years.  I have developed many life-time friends who continue to bless my life.”
