Associate Director Spotlight – Jen Harlan
Jen Harlan is an Associate Director US Member Engagement at the Golden Key Headquarters here in Atlanta Georgia. Jen will be responsible for grassroots membership communication and helping local Golden Key chapters drive awareness and launch events on campus. She oversees the US Northwest and Midwest region, which include universities located in states such as Missouri, Utah and Colorado.We were lucky to catch her in between her busy schedule to learn more about this new staff member!
Where are you from/ where did you grow up?
I grew up in North Augusta, South Carolina—just north and across the Savannah River from Augusta, GA, home of the annual Master’s golf tournament.
Where did you go to college?
I attended Wofford College, a small, private liberal arts school in Spartanburg, SC. I am currently pursuing a master’s degree at the University of North Georgia.
What did you study in school/ major in?
I graduated from Wofford with a BA in English and Spanish, and am currently working on my MA in International Affairs.
What are some of the things you were involved in, in college?
In college, I spent an incredible semester abroad, living and learning in a small town right outside of Madrid, Spain. I was a member of Alpha Phi Omega, a service fraternity, as well as honors societies including Sigma Tau Delta, Sigma Delta Pi, and Phi Beta Kappa. I also served as the editor of our college yearbook.
What are your hobbies?
I love to travel, cook new foods and bake anything sweet, as well as read as many books as I can get my hands on.
What is your favorite quote?
“Not all those who wander are lost” – J. R. R. Tolkien
What is your favorite movie, TV show, band/singer, and/or song?
I absolutely love the Harry Potter series, both in book and movie form. I also love binge watching TV shows in Netflix, and most top forties music.
What is the #1 most played song on your iPod?
Any song by Mumford and Sons.
What is the best and worst gift you ever received?
I find gifts, no matter how small, incredibly exciting – so really any gift I’ve ever gotten has been the absolute best. J
What excites you the most about working at Golden Key?
I am excited to work with the unique colleges and universities that are part of Golden Key International Honour Society – I can’t wait to meet the neat students and advisors that are part of my chapters!
*Fun Fact
I am fluent in Spanish, and make homemade pasta on a regular basis.
Anything else we should know about you?
I once took a trip to study recurring themes within the Harry Potter series in Great Britain – essentially, I am a big nerd.
