Key Chapter Winner Highlight: University of British Columbia

The University of British Columbia chapter, one of the winners of the Key Chapter award, participated in 38 different events during the 2012-2013 academic year. UofBCDuring this time period, the Golden Key chapter co-hosted four different events centered around wellness, an important subject matter to the chapter. Two of these events, which were held in November, concentrated on how to live a healthy and balanced lifestyle in terms of mental health and the other covered positive health changes, structure for success and the benefits of a gluten-free diet. The others were held in 2013 and concentrated on caloric intake and how to eat healthy on a budget in the area. They also held service initiatives in which they sold coffee, tea and baked goods to raise money for mental health awareness and suicide prevention initiatives.
The University of British Columbia chapter has also held opportunities for members to participate in leadership development sessions.UofBC2 One of these was a free consultation on Graduate and Professional Programs by Astroff Consultants, which is Canada’s leading consulting firm. This session provided invaluable advice on the process of applying to professional and graduate schools. They also had a workshop on achieving big-picture goals by Sven Winter, a World Cup Champion ski-cross racer. One of the chapter’s most successful events was an LSAT information session in which Golden Key members had the opportunity hear the speakers’ personal experiences, the market trends in securing a job and the lifestyle of an attorney, as well as the chance to ask the speakers questions that are tailored particularly to them. This event was particularly rewarding with overall outstandingly positive feedback and many attendees requesting to hold a similar event this coming Fall. This event was open to Golden Key members and potential members which lead to numerous attendees joining as a result of the event.
