Advisor Spotlight: Dr. Neil H. Donahue, Hofstra University
For the month of December, the Advisor Spotlight will highlight Dr. Neil H. Donahue of Hofstra University. The chapter officers provided the following submission:
We would like to recognize Dr. Neil Donahue as an exceptionally valuable Golden Key International Honour Society advisor because he has played a key role in the revitalization of Hofstra University’s chapter. Dr. Neil H. Donahue is the Associate Dean of Hofstra University’s Honors College (HUHC) and Professor of German and Comparative Literature. He has been at Hofstra since 1988, after having taught at both Columbia University and Rutgers University, where he received his Ph.D. in 1987. His main area of scholarly research has been 20th-century German literature and culture (specifically the novel, poetry and cultural theory), linking formal analysis of a work or text with its various contexts in social, cultural, intellectual, artistic and literary history. He has written or edited six books as well as numerous articles and reviews, and has received prestigious grants and fellowships, including the Fulbright Program, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in Germany.
Though Dr. Donahue only became the advisor for Hofstra’s chapter last year, he has done a great amount of work for the organization. He spends countless hours in meetings with our chapter leaders and maintains consistent correspondence with various officials at Golden Key Headquarters. He does his utmost to ensure that our chapter is up to par. Because we currently lack a treasurer, Dr. Donahue maintains our chapter’s budget. In his time as advisor, Golden Key’s presence on Hofstra’s campus has increased greatly. He is incredibly enthusiastic about Golden Key and really wants to help us make our chapter a largely recognized and respected on-campus organization. Plus, he really loves the Golden Key graduation cords. Dr. Donahue is a staple to the Golden Key chapter at Hofstra and we couldn’t ask for a better advisor.
