GK Scholarships: Breanna Nelson
Golden Key is pleased to introduce Breanna Nelson, one of Golden Key’s 2020 Graduate Scholar Award winners. Breanna earned her Bachelor’s in Psychology, Neuroscience and Behaviour from McMaster University in 2021. She is currently pursuing her Master’s in Experimental Medicine from the University of British Columbia.
“I am honoured to have been accepted for the Golden Key Society’s 2020 Graduate Scholar Award,” Breanna says. “This award will allow me to continue my education and begin researching the effects of traumatic brain injuries on the health of marginally housed populations.”
Breanna is elated to have started her Master’s with the help of this scholarship.
“I was born and raised in Guelph, ON, Canada, and completed my Honours Bachelor of Science degree at McMaster University, in Hamilton, ON,” Breanna explains. “I am excited to have started my masters at the University of British Columbia, in Vancouver, BC.”
Breanna’s high educational involvement has allowed her to achieve many accolades throughout her academic career.
“During my undergraduate degree, I was associated with the Psychology, Neuroscience & Behaviour Society, as their Vice President of Finance,” Breanna mentions. “I was also a recipient of McMaster University’s Senate Scholarship, awarded for my high GPA.”
Currently, Breanna is working as a Graduate Research Assistant with the BC Injury Research and Prevention Unit.
“I am a part-time graduate research assistant examining the effects of COVID-19 restrictions on instances of violence towards children between British Columbia and Ontario,” Breanna reveals.
Thank you for being a part of the Golden Key family, Breanna; we wish you the best of luck on your Master’s degree!
