Three things every freshman needs for success in 2019

Hey, Mom! Give yourself a pat on the back. You did it—you raised one smart kid who’s about to own freshman year at college. We know how hard the transition can be—and not just for teens. At Golden Key, we’re here to support your student and you—the proud Mom who’s made it all possible.

On that note, today we want to talk about three things EVERY freshman needs to succeed in 2019. Share these tips with your teen, and let’s make 2019 their best year yet.

1. Never miss a thing.
   Orientation. Classes. Meetings with professors. Student clubs (don’t forget Golden Key orientations, too :)). There’s a lot to get involved in on campus, and it’s best for your first-year student to participate in as much as possible. Knowledge is power, and the faster they learn their way around campus while absorbing valuable information from professors, the faster they’ll shoot to freshman stardom.
   
   
2. Balance.
   We know that all work and no play makes for one dull student! Finding balance is critical to success on both ends of the spectrum. Getting good grades in college is tougher than it was in high school. Every A+ is earned, which means making plenty of time to study. In the same breath, you need to encourage your teen to have some fun with friends—and SLEEP. A relaxed mind is a focused mind.
   
   
3. Ask For Help.
   Nobody can do it all alone. College can be overwhelming, but the right support can get your teen back on track.
