New University Relations Officer Spotlight: Myee Gregory

We are excited to introduce you to a new University Relations Officer that recently joined the Golden Key team! Myee Gregory joined us in June and she oversees Eastern Australia & New Zealand chapters from our Asia-Pacific office.  Get to know her better with this Q&A.
406Where are you from/grow up? I grew up in Armidale – the highest city in Australia!
Where did you go to college? I attended the University of New England.
What did you study? I received a Bachelor of Media and Communication (1st class honours) and a Graduate Certificate in Writing.
What were some of the things you were involved in, in college?

  • Coast Run Charity committee – running 230km over 2 days to the coast (in relay, I only did 35ks in the weekends). My contribution (a discount card) raised over $25,000 for children’s medical research.
  • Academic mentor – initiated an Intercollegiate Quiz Competition between the 8 colleges (dorms?). Had past and present Vice-Chancellor as Judges, over 500 attendees.
  • NSW Parliamentary Internship Program – drafted bills and wrote speeches for parliament.
  • myOE Travel Scholarship winner – won a trip to Fiji and then to the UK with students from Aus/NZ

What are your hobbies? I love people (friends and family), travel, dancing, yoga, reading, nature, learning, food and swimming.
Do you have a favorite quote? “Everything will be all right in the end. If it is not alright, it is not the end,” from The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel
What is your favorite sport? Dancing, yoga, swimming and nature walks. I’m too injury prone to play team sports anymore!
If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would it be? The Dalai Lama – he just has so much insight and wisdom on life.
What is your favorite TV show, movie and singer/band?
TV show: Arrested Development, so funny!
Movie: French film The Intouchables or The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel
I’m more a song person than a singer/band devotee. My all-time favourite songs are ‘September’ by Earth, Wind and Fire and ‘Get Low’ by Lil John and the East Side Boys.
What is the number 1 most played song on your iPod? Shuffle by Bombay Bicycle Club – it’s just so happy!
If you could live anywhere, where would it be and why? Sydney is the most beautiful city I’ve ever been to so I’m lucky to be living here now. But I’d also like to live in Luang Prabang in northern Laos (South East Asia). A world heritage French-colonial village that lies on the junction of two rivers and is surrounded by spectacular waterfalls and jungles. There are Buddhist temples everywhere, amazing markets, strong expat community. It’s so peaceful. Or Vanuatua (Pacific Island) – that’s where I want to raise my future family. Or Punta Sal in Northern Peru, where the desert meets the sea.
What website/blog do you go to everyday? Facebook and Instagram. Best way to keep up with friends while on the road!
What excites you most about working at Golden Key? My focus in life is to empower people to be their best selves and Golden Key gives me the opportunity to do that. I also love working in such a fabulous team and having the opportunity to explore new places, meet inspiring people and develop my skills.
Is there anything else we should know about you? For my honours project, I made documentary in remote Nepal about women’s empowerment and community development. It was tough but highly rewarding, a big thank you to Golden Key for the scholarship that helped me do this!
