University of the Free State Chapter Outreach Project

UFS June 2010The UFS chapter hosted a community outreach project in conjunction with Villa hostel and visited an orphanage. The chapter runs an ongoing tinned food and clothing campaign where they collect non-perishable food and clothes. On Saturday, 17 April they distributed the clothes and food at Eden Christian Home. Majority of residents are mentally handicapped and receive a small pension. They stay at the home at no cost and in return look after the home, the ladies sew and the men do woodwork. The institution is completely dependent on donations from others. Each person received at least one new outfit from the clothes handed over. The tinned food supplied the home with at least a two month supply of canned food. The chapter also runs an ongoing literacy project where they volunteer to read to blind students on campus.
