Brightening the Future Project: Esokwazi Secondary School

This project was coordinated by the University of Pretoria Golden Key chapter. It entailed tutoring Grade 10 to 12 learners at the Esokwazi Secondary School in Sebokeng and aimed to motivate learners to perform well academically. They were given extra lessons in Maths, Science and Accounting and familiarize themselves with certain life skills and how to make informed future career choices. Engineering, IT and Built Environment students doing their Community Based Project module were involved. Varsity students and young professionals were invited as guest speakers. Some learners will attend the University of Pretoria Open Day in 2010. This has been one of our most successful and well-organized projects for 2009 under the leadership of Mathabo Auta. A closing ceremony for the volunteers and learners were held on 8 August and each received a t-shirt and certificate.
