I am a senior in the BFA program at UAF, located in Fairbanks, Alaska.
I grew up in Adelaide, South Australia and always dreamed to come to America one day and do something adventurous. Like most kids, I was not really sure what I wanted to be when I grew up. At one point it was a doctor, then a vet, then a Cirque du Soleil performer, then a pilot, then an actor.
I started my high school education in 2003, the same year that Pixar released their Monsters Inc. film in theatres. After watching this movie over and over (along with the Pixar studio tour on their special features on DVD) I realized that I knew what career I wanted to pursue.
After graduating from Marryatville High School in 2007 with a major in art and design, I moved to Fairbanks with my mum in early 2008 and began my tertiary education the end of that year.
Currently I am preparing my BFA thesis (Computer Art & Animation), whilst simultaneously undertaking a grad. course in Character Animation offered by AnimationMentor, and holding a Paleontological Artist and Archivist position at the UA Museum of the North, Earth Science Dept.
AnimationMentor is my best chance for securing a job at one of the big studios in the Lower 48. (Alaska's nickname for the mainland of North America) The course is 18 months long and is broken into 6 classes; each one exploring a fundamental section of character animation. All campus mentors are animators currently employed at studios like Pixar, Disney, Lucasarts, ILM, Dreamworks, BlueSky and Rhythm & Hues. My current mentor is Jon Collins, an animator from Pixar Animation Studios.
My dream job is to be an Animator at Pixar Studios; it has been my goal for the last 9 years, and I will not give up until I get there.
